The Honto didn’t begin with confidence. It began with discomfort — a quiet, persistent feeling that something true about Japanese matcha was slipping away.
As matcha spread across the world, the story behind it became blurred. The meaning, the care, the cultural depth… replaced by shortcuts and trends. Everywhere I looked, I felt a growing distance between what matcha truly is and what the world believed it to be.
That gap became impossible to ignore.
There was a moment when I realized that if I wanted authenticity to survive — the kind I grew up understanding — I couldn’t wait for someone else to protect it. I had to build something myself. Something honest. Something grounded. Something that carried the spirit of honto — “real” and “true.”
Starting The Honto was not simple. It meant questioning the easy path, choosing intention over speed, and holding onto a mission that felt bigger than me. There were doubts, long nights, and moments where the weight of doing things the right way felt overwhelming.
But the purpose never faded.
The Honto exists because authenticity matters.
Because culture deserves respect.
Because matcha is more than a trend — it’s a story worth honoring.
This blog marks the beginning of sharing that story.
Not the polished version, but the real one: the origins, the challenges, the values that guide us, and the journey ahead.
Thank you for being here at the start of The Honto Journey.
There is so much more to come.
